Freelance Data Processing - Data Entry Jobs

Make the right business connections in the world’s
fastest-growing freelance marketplace.

Data processors are employed in virtually every industry to process the growing volume of information that is part and parcel of operating a business. Data processors play a key role in making sure that important information is entered quickly and correctly so that businesses can operate efficiently.

Today, data processors are increasingly able to work off-site thanks to technological evolution. Some data entry or data processors choose to telecommute and work from home offices with a computer that links them to the company's office via a phone line. Although, with advances in office technology data processing isn't just restricted to keyboarding - document scanning and electronic files transmission are increasingly becoming a standard part of the job. More and more data processors are taking advantage of the opportunity to work from home as corporate attitudes to telecommuting are changing. There is a growing trend for company's to contract out their work and many have cut-back on permanent employees and are hiring temps and independent contractors.

For those looking to enter the data processing field, it's worth noting that a large percentage of jobs are concentrated in the business services area. As a rule you will be expected to have data processing training and/or experience and possibly word processing skills. A good grasp of spelling, punctuation and grammar are also essential, as is basic math. It's important that you're computer literate, have good typing skills and are familiar with standard office software and equipment.

For data processors keyboarding speed and accuracy is of the essence as a key part of the job is quickly entering large amounts of business-critical information. Keyboarding skills can be learnt at business schools, community colleges or via online tutorials and some Temp Agencies also offer training. You can also apply skills learnt working in-house to kick start a career as a telecommuter, temp or freelancer. The type of information you'll be entering and tasks you'll be performing vary from industry to industry, but often include:

  • medical records
  • numerical data
  • customer information
  • client lists.
  • editing information
  • proofreading new database entries

The key to being a successful freelance data processor is to make sure that your skills and qualifications are up to date. Make sure that you are up to speed on the latest office technology and software so that you can meet the changing demands of businesses.

Testimonials

"I took a chance one day when I was flush and sent a few bucks to gain access to the Go Freelance Professional Edition. Since then, I've edited a sales letter, a follow-up letter, an 11-page Web site, and a brochure. I'm 'on call' to do pinch-hit proofreading for a medical newsletter editor in Florida ..and I've landed a gig editing a new Canadian magazine coming out this fall. All this from taking a chance on Go Freelance."
