1. Writing Rotten Resumes
Once again the New York Times has hit the headlines itself as it imposes
new draconian contracts on freelancers.
Freelance writers and photographers are being asked to assign copyright
ownership to the paper, allowing it to exploit all the associated rights
and licensing fees.
Several regular contributors have refused to sign, and many others are
demanding that day rates be increased at least to compensate for lost
future earnings.
Atlanta-based photographer Robin Nelson is adamant that management must
compromise.
"I want to believe if enough photographers say there needs to be a few
things amended, maybe The New York Times' management will be forced to take
another look at this with more fairness," Nelson says. "I don't think they
want photojournalism students working for them, but I'm afraid that's
ultimately what will happen."

Testimonials
"I took a chance one day when I was flush and sent a few bucks to gain access to the Go Freelance Professional Edition. Since then, I've edited a sales letter, a follow-up letter, an 11-page Web site, and a brochure. I'm 'on call' to do pinch-hit proofreading for a medical newsletter editor in Florida ..and I've landed a gig editing a new Canadian magazine coming out this fall. All this from taking a chance on Go Freelance."
