Your Questions About Freelance Writing Online

Sandra asks…

How can one like myself switch an Studio Art major to a minor If I were to enroll in school?

I'm just a bit curious and anxious about whether this is possible for someone like myself who has been in Studio Art for two years. I have always enjoy doing drawing a image(portraiture) of a person, object and something of nature. I do it on anything that I find interesting or appealing. I like to do it on things that represent a culture(Pop, Ethnic,or beauty) Once in a while I may draw or sketch an idea for a design for apparel(jewelry). I like to do it in pencil(black in white),color or paint. I only paint occasionally. I choose Art because I'm good at doing images by hand in detail. I have been really uncertain about what I may want to do as a career in it. My other interest has been Cultural issues with people. I'm just not sure if I want to teach with this degree. My most recent school I went was at the University of North Florida. I was at Junior Status. I was in school either full-time or quart of the time. I have been to more than one school! I started out at a Community College in Florida with a AA degree. I also been attented at a Visual Art School of New York in Savannah Georgia. I was there for two years in a Illustration program that was really challenging and tough for me. The Art projects in some of the classes like painting, and a studio/Lecture class Principle of Illustration. My other struggle was test-taking in my lecture course like Art history. It was not working out to well for me. While I was at University of North Florida I was doing really well in my studio classes getting A's or B's. In my Lecture course I struggle with written exams. This is not the only thing but I have pondered about what it is I may want to do with this degree. I have asked a question about "What are some other things I could do with a Studio Art major(degree) besides teach?" I got a answer from a academic advisor at a University about getting a teaching certificate , double major, change my major on the lines of Graphic Design, or Advertizing. When I read this I felt real apprehensive or anixous about the idea. The reason why because I think about my long academic history previous schools. I want to know is it possible that I can switch the major to minor? I would not know what I would major in once I do it? How much longer would I have? I also would like to know what jobs can I get with what I have now? I only hold an AA degree and has had a strong Art education background. I'm planning on doing some freelancing online on a website to view or have my own website with some samples of my artwork. I do not know if I want to sell. I'm thinking more and more of doing this on the side. I have submitted my resume to Job sights like Indeed.com and Employ Florida. for jobs. I have recently volunteer at an Art Museum. I did Office Aid and help with an Art project. I'm also building a portfolio. If anyone who is an art major(artist) or advisor that knows about what I could look into as a job with what I do have which is a AA degree and a strong Art training(education) background. I would appreciate it. Thanks.
I would like to add if there is anyone who is a Academic advisor who would like to answer this I would appreciated it. The first answer is fair but not enough! I need some helpful professional suggestions. Thanks for your time.

James asks…

Fiance/Petitioner is also my employer, is that ok?

I am just worried if that will create a problem. He sends me money and in return I work for it by working online as a writer for his websites. He sends the money through the ATM he left to me before he went back to US. We met in my country and been in a relationship after a couple of months. Since we work in the same field, I work for his websites and he gives me money while we are also in a relationship.

I am filling out the G-325A form and I am just not sure what to write in the employment section. Should I just leave the employer blank and indicate I work freelance?
It's more like, I owe him money and I work for it by working on his websites. But it is more of a partnership since I like what I am doing.

You are allowed to work for your fiance/petitioner and should put all the information in truth on the Biographic Information form

Donna asks…

Long question but please help. So what's the point of going on?

I'm a 22-year-old male.

- Failed to get a degree after 4 years' college in Egypt. Lots of failed, dropped and barely-passed subjects, plus I fled the country to escape military service.

- Dropped out of college in Canada because I found my first semester science courses to be too difficult. At this rate, I'll get my first degree at 26 or 27 or so.

I was extremely intelligent in grade school. My SAT score was enough to qualify for Oxford. I never dreamed I'd be like this.

I always used to have ambitions--I wanted to write a history book when I was 13 and a publishing house in London even agreed to it. I still want to write books, or enter poetry contests, or freelance for magazines and newspapers. I always wanted to travel, I'm majorly interested in history and politics and culture. I always wanted to learn languages, French, German, Spanish, Persian, or Hebrew. I always wanted to convert to Judaism. I haven't done any of these things and I don't think I ever will. I wasted my best years and I'm an adult now.

- Extremely lazy. Afraid of hard work. Never leave my comfort zone.

- Obsessive compulsive, this is a huge problem. I take much longer than a normal person to get something done. I need to see a psychiatrist.

- Parents are sick of me staying at home. They say to work full-time or study full-time or move out. Mother in particular hates me.

- I don't take care of myself, I'm an emotional eater, never exercise, low energy level. My biological age is probably 27 or something.

- I spend basically every day on games, social networking sites, Youtube...

- I've been in an 'online relationship' with a younger girl from Israel for about 5 months, we talk 2-3 hours a day and are supposed to meet next year, but I don't know the future in it.

I'm not depressed or anything but I really don't see the point of my life and if I died tomorrow I wouldn't care. Where do I go from here? What changes need to be made...

Laura asks…

A question about invoices?

I am working as a freelance translator and I recently got an offer from one company to translate a text. They are based in another country and the work will be done online.

They sent me their terms and conditions to sign, yet there is one condition that is not really clear to me. It is as follows: The Company's standard payment terms are 60 DAYS AFTER MONTH END IN WHICH INVOICE IS RECEIVED IN The Company. E.g. Invoice dated, sent and received in March 2010, would be due for payment on 31st May 2010.
Bank transfers will be made within the first 5 days of the following month; to avoid delays, it is advisable for suppliers to invoice promptly, especially at the end of the month. Invoices are to be sent to...

My question is: does this mean that I will need to write and send them an invoice after the work is finished so that they can pay me? It sounds kind of weird because I am an employee in this case and I never actually did such thing as an employee.

I would ask them directly but their working hours are over and I would like to send them back the form asap, thus I am posting my question here. I would be glad if you could help me with this and the sooner the better.

Thanks in advance.

admin answers:

You will NOT be an employee you are working as an independent contractor, you will send them an invoice when the work is completed and they pay you from the invoice.
They state that it is 60 days (more or less).....

Make sure your contract covers such issues as quality of the work done, fees for late payments, who is to pay for supplies needed, the recourse for non-payment of invoices, what fees/penalties may be incurred if the work is completed late, etcetera...
