Your Questions About Home Business Magazine

David asks…

I am thinking about setting up my own business and want to know what you think about it...?

I am thinking about setting up a small marketing business from home. I hope to target other small businesses in the area such as cafes, sandwich shops, sweet shops and takeaways. I would be designing posters, flyer's and adverts for them in which I would distribute appropriately. I would put the advertisements in the free newspaper and also the monthly village magazine. I would also distribute flyer's in the street, through letter boxes and in the free paper. I may also have flyer's in other stores depending on what the business wants.
What I am asking here is do you think that I have a good idea? Also what would be an appropriate price to charge say to design and distribute 500 leaflets?
Any other comments will be greatly welcomed, thank you for your answers

Work at your normal job until, you come up with some big cash (so maybe take 10% out of what you get in a week.) now here's what you call, a big change. Say you're selling candy. Now if your selling air heads, you must pay some of the company. But if you add more sugar, you don't.

Michael asks…

Do you keep candles in your home?

A former African witchdoctor who practiced witchcraft for over twenty years said that demons are attracted to the substance candles are made out of. Candles were a part of his witchcraft. It does not matter what color, shape, or smell they have. When lit, the smell of the candle also calls on another big time demon. Is it a wonder why the candle business is in the Billions of dollars a year! No wonder too that so many churches have candles all over the place.

Get rid of all your candles. You may just be getting rid of some of your problems. This also pertains to incense.

For those Bible researchers who read that "candles" were mentioned in the Bible, look in your Strong's concordance. The Original term is "lamp" "oil" or "oil lamp", NOT "candle". The menorah tradition goes back to 165 B.C. They did not use candles, but used oil.

After you get rid of the candles, command all the demons to leave you and your property, in the name of Jesus, JUST IN CASE.

Looking at it on the basis of your health, this article was in the August 2000 issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine under Health Update:

"Are your candles making you sick?

You love the warm glow and calming scents of your favorite candles. But you probably won't be as enamored of the prospect that these same candles may be emitting lead particles into your home.

"The last thing people would imagine is that candles can be little lead smelters," says Sidney Wolfe, the director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group in Washington D.C.

The group examined 285 candles from twelve different stores in the D.C. area. Eighty-six had metal wicks, and laboratory tests found that nine had wicks containing high amounts of lead.

The group says burning a lead-wicked candle for three hours can cause lead levels in the air to be nine to 33 times higher than federal safety standards. Airborne lead can be inhaled or it can settle on surfaces, where it can be ingested.

Wolfe urges people to check their candles for metal wicks. You can tell by looking straight down at the wick to see if there is a metal tip in the center. Not all metal wicks contain lead, but to be on the safe side, don't burn any candles with metal wicks.

Lead poisoning may damage the central nervous system and cause abnormal development and behavior and learning problems in children."

I have to keep them in case of emergency. We DO have power outages now and then. Otherwise the rest of that stuff is just a bunch of horse dung.

I need to learn about home electronics and computers but where/how do you learn?

I am starting up a home electronics installation (TVs, Surround Sound, Home Computers) business and I was wondering if there is any literature (magazines/books), online tutorials or anything to learn more about the industry. I know how everything fits together and I know how to assemble wall mounts and shelving most of that stuff is common scene stuff and I have the carpenter gene that I inherited from my dad which comes in handy, but what I would like to know is:
a. new up and coming technology
b. stuff like what makes 1080p better than 1080i.
c. Why cable A. is better than cable B.
d. these speakers are the best because…
e. placement of speakers
f. the difference between this sourround sound receiver compared to that one.
g. etc.
I am currently taking computer classes via www.quickcert.com so I think I will be covered under the computer department unless someone else knows better.
I’ve has small success thus far but I would like to be the expert when visiting my customers.

90% of everything i learned was through online forums such as avsforums.com
You learn about new things in tech through blogs such as engadet.com boygeniusreport.com or gizmodo.com or by visiting the numerous tech conventions they have each year.. Ifa for example.
Signing up for Home theater mags is also a good choice.
To learn about speakers, get the 'loudspeaker design cookbook'. That will tell you probably everything you could want to know.

Nancy asks…

What is a good source for research on Open Source software?

I'm looking for 2 magazines, 1 book, 1 academic journal, plus online source(s).

I'm writing a 6 page paper, so if you have any idea where I might find these, let me know about it.

Oh, and my paper is about whether people should use open or closed source for home or business.
I'd prefer a book or magazine source, since it's easy to find online ones.
