Description of project:

'The President's Daughter' is a humorous political thriller set in the late 1990s, dealing with the events leading up to a President's impeachment – a la Bill Clinton's – for lying to the American people about his sexual misdemeanors. The action takes place in Cambridge MA, Camp David, New York, and Udaipur in Rajasthan. The humor comes out in the witty dialogue between two lots of characters, one American – The President, his daughter and her boyfriend – and the other Indian – a graduate student at MIT and his Indian girlfriend/fiancée, a graduate student at Columbia, and their families. The Indian PM, loosely based on Inder Kumar Gujral, plays a minor role. The political thriller aspect arises out of the impending impeachment crisis facing the President. The novel also draws a light-hearted contrast between the American and Indian ways of life especially in regards to love, sex and marriage.
